Based on the now-defunct CS505 Stereo Chorus, the Maxon PAC-9 Pure Analog Chorus takes that venerable design and brings it into the 21st century.

Featuring an improved oscillator section, the Maxon PAC-9 can perform rotary-speaker simulations and tremolo-chorus effects that were not previously attainable with the CS505. Pure and Bright switches provide a variety of useful chorus effects while performance is kept dead-quiet thanks for Maxon's proprietary RMS noise reduction circuity.

"The Maxon PAC-9 provides a large range of great chorus sounds with completely silent operation. I had never used choruses before this one, as they often resulted in tones that sounded overly processed for my personal taste. This one allows for lovely subtlety, and is rugged and straight-forward to use." - Gretchen Menn - www.gretchenmenn.com

PAC-9 Chorus Pedal

This is a great chorus pedal flying a bit under the radar. Been through many over the years, and I am not a chorus apologist, I LOVE chorus:) The two toggle switches allow you to really dial in the sound and how you want it to sit in the mix. Both volume loss and volume jump are common characteristics of chorus pedals, and one of the toggles addresses this. You have a choice of unity gain, or a slight boost. I prefer unity gain with my modulation and it does this admirably - no volume loss. The sound is a bit smoother IMHO than a CE-2 and its clones. The CE-2 camp is glorious in its own right, but I prefer this one. The other toggle is also quite effective and you can choose a thick, syrupy, wavy flavor, or a more controlled, slightly brighter, more focused flavor. I found the latter (bright) setting ultimately more to my taste. Don't let the word "bright" discourage you as it is still quite smooth and warm in the "bright" mode. And you can crank the depth up without it inducing nausea:) - as long as you keep the speed relatively low. 9:00 speed and 3:00 depth is my favorite setting. It sounds great clean, and after dirt. And running the right phaser into it can be a real treat as well. The Heptode Virtuoso phaser into it is sublime. Anyhow, happy hunting, and if you are a chorus fan, you owe it to yourself to give this one a spin.
