Autumn is our absolute favorite time of year, and to celebrate the Season of the Witch and all that is scary, spooky, and frighteningly fun, we present the TWA Octoverdrive™!
Like Frankenstein’s Monster, cobbled together from discorporate parts and then electrified back to life, the heart of the Octoverdrive hides archaic, undead components that should not create sound – and yet, it lives!
Cursed to clip for all eternity by a set of selenium rectifiers the Octoverdrive offers two channels of diabolical dirt:
- TREAT – A thick, harmonically rich tube-like drive with the perfect degree of compression. Treat goes from creepy crunch to ghoulish gain with eerie ease.
- TRICK – Adds a haunting, high-octave harmonic to the drive signal. Unlike other Octavia’s, the Octoverdrive retains low-end while boosting output level, effortlessly raising your guitar tone from the grave.
The Octoverdrive also features a 3-band cut/boost EQ circuit to hack and chop your tone to pieces. For the faint of heart, there’s a Dry Blend control to add a touch of purity to the Octoverdrive’s evil goodness.
Just like Halloween, the Octoverdrive only rears its pumpkin-crowned head once a year, so get your bony fingers on one—before the clock strikes midnight!
*Please note the Octoverdrive™ was manufactured in a limited batch of 100. Unlike most other TWA pedals we will NOT be producing any more of these special little units.

In all of the relevant circles of so-called "literature" regarding stompboxes, the silicon vs. germanium debate rages without cessation. The funny thing is, very few people ever offer up suggestions about which kinds of unexplored elements could yield new sounds and textures - perhaps because so few elements would work in an overdrive - so it is exciting when builders come out with something this new and innovative. I'll try to spare you the buzzwords, but I can say with confidence that this is one of the most inspiring overdrives on the market to date. The Octoverdrive (Octavia/Overdrive; cute) uses selenium components (sourced from old cameras if I'm not mistaken) to create bizarre yet usable sounds that cut through the static of the current scene. This is not another TS or "centaur" circuit bend; the sonic landscape this box offers will turn heads and capture ears without mercy. The base overdrive sound is full of richness and warmth, but with a spicy edge that lends itself to modern metal - I was instantly reminded of peak Children of Bodom tone when I heard the massive amount of midrange that this thing slams into a gritty amp, but more classic sounds can certainly be had, too. There is a definite Lee Jackson flavor when you push a dirty amp with this side of the pedal, and that is always a welcome tone. Activating the octave switch sounds less "Band of Gypsies" and a tad bit more "Wolverine Blues," in my humble estimation, but that is definitely not a problem for a pedal with a grinning pumpkin on the front. The serration and grind the octave adds is compelling and authoritative; I would challenge any audience not to notice when that switch gets stepped on.
By the way, can we talk about the aesthetics and build quality of all TWA stompboxes? They are literally unparalleled in the game when it comes to artistry and function - I've yet to feel a better or heavier-duty box in my hands, and I've felt them all.
In short, check this out if you can catch a restock. The inspiring sounds pour from this device, and the blend knob helps to balance the device with the gain level you have on your amp so you can keep things as tight or fuzzy as you like. I tend to run my gain and blend quite low - evidently the sound of selenium is far more extreme than expected, so a little bit goes a very long way. As with every TWA device, the sonic spectrum is huge; you can go from subtle to submerged with a surgical tweak, but would we want anything less?
If you're tired of the same old drive pedals, stick this one in your treat bag -just be ready to wake the dead.
Se has a different clipping structure than Si or Ge.
It is delightfully unique. The user control parameters, make it easy to "dial-in" a usable tone for various situations.
Love this pedal ! and it is well-built.
This pedal quickly became a standard part of my drive chain. Its sounds so good I keep it apart and run it into my favorite amp separately. I only accentuates the tones and provides a great character in standard drive, as well as a meaty unique octave drive when I need the extra zing. So happy to have this on board. I have not played anything like it and I wont need to go looking anymore.
Both ! The TWA has plenty of tricks up it's sleeve, and it's a treat to play with. The amount of gain on tap is insane. The selenium diodes are capable of serious distortion that can go from heavy overdrive, to full on distortion and into powerful fuzz . Once the trick channel is engaged , the octave fuzz kicks in and the unit summons the spirits from the great beyond. The clean blend is my favorite feature, as it imparts definition and clarity. Super versatile. Highly recommended. Don't sit in a pumpkin patch awaiting the Great Pumpkin to arrive...simply grab one of these babies for a serious treat !
